Dr. Mona Spiegel, Founder of My Family Coach, has provided psychological and coaching services to parents and children for over twenty-five years and is a recognized expert in child psychology. She has appeared on ABC and FOX TV News, disseminated up-to-date psychological information through articles published in print and on-line, and conducted in-person and teleconference workshops on a variety of topics related to women’s development and families (see Dr. Spiegel’s Presentations). She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the International Coach Federation.
Dr. Spiegel earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Columbia University, where she also received a Masters Degree in Reading Disabilities. After graduating from Columbia, she worked as a School Psychologist in the public school systems of Montgomery County, MD and Rockland County, NY and, additionally, in several private schools. In these settings, she provided the necessary guidance to determine how to service the many students who experienced difficulty in school.
Dr. Spiegel’s experiences in school settings highlighted the importance of addressing the psychological needs of children to ensure their educational success. She determined that she could serve the community better by opening a private practice that caters to both families and schools.
Dr Spiegel helps parents deal not only with specific problems but also with the many other difficulties of child-raising. When parents suspect learning or emotional problems, she conducts psychological evaluations to accurately diagnose their children’s difficulties, provides research-based recommendations and helps parents implement the recommended treatments. When they seek guidance on child-raising, she encourages parents to separate their own issues from their parenting roles and to maintain effective, yet loving, discipline while developing a lifelong trusting relationship with their children. Last but not least, when parents need support for themselves, Dr. Spiegel works with them on an individual basis to resolve their difficulties.
After successfully raising five children together with her husband, Dr. Spiegel took the final step in the realization of her vision; in September 2004, she established a forum for helping women take steps to prevent the onset of psychological problems. My Family Coach (MFC) is a professional coaching enterprise whose goal is to educate, mentor and empower women to make the best choices for themselves and their families. MFC runs teleconference groups, distributes the free MFC Ezine, and coaches women individually on parenting, family, relationships, interpersonal skills and wellness.
