Anger & Behaviour | Rachel Thynne

anger and behaviour Rachel Thynne

In this episode, expert guest, Rachel Thynne, talks to Clare about anger and how it can often mask other emotions.

Rachel is the lead Outreach teacher for an outstanding attachment-awareness specialist setting for pupils with Social and Emotional Mental Health difficulties in Dorset. She is also author of the book Behaviour Barriers and Beyond. You can find her book here.

Rachel recommends a book called The Whole Brain Child by Dan Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson. It’s available here.

The three top tips Rachel shares with us in the episode are:

  1. View behaviour as communication: What is this behaviour telling you?
  2. Think about what anger is: Know that anger is masking or a coping mechanism for other emotions that are lying beneath.
  3. Co-regulation: Help your child to calm down before you try to talk to them.
