Wellbeing & Behaviour | Gary Nicholls

Gary Nicholls talks to Clare about behaviour in young children, wellbeing, and what it means to be healthy.

In this episode, expert guest Gary Nicholls talks to Clare about behaviour in early years and reflects on wellbeing, using the question, ‘What is healthy?’

Gary uses his 30 years of experience in primary education, both as a teacher and headteacher, to explain how to best support young children. Gary now works in a variety of roles as a family coach, a Team Teach Principal trainer, and as a school consultant.

Gary recommends the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon.

The three top tips Gary shares with us in the episode are:

  1. A thought. We’re all human, which means we each spend time being amazing and not so amazing; it’s human.
  2. A script. Use the phrase, ‘I wonder…’ when alongside children (and adults); it opens up people’s thinking.
  3. A habit. Breathe consciously whenever you can.
