As a parent or carer, you want to protect your children from the harsh realities of the world. But tragedies happen, and these frightening world events scare us even as adults.

 

Reports of natural disasters, famine, terrorism, violence, and wars fill our lives. And children feel these things as immediate to them. An earthquake in a far-off country may seem very real and possible to them. 

 

Why you should talk to your child about frightening world events

 

While we do our best to shelter children from traumatic events, they have a great deal of access to information in the news and online. They hear their friends talking on the playground and see and hear thing we may not want them to.
