Seeing your child display bullying behaviour can be a hard thing to accept for any parent. But you’ve made the first step: you’re asking the right questions and taking the time to read articles like this one.
It’s worth saying early on, your child may not realise that their behaviour is bullying, and their actions may be masking their own concerns, anxieties, or unmet needs. As a parent you are well placed to help them.
Talk to your child about their behaviour
Don’t jump to conclusions. Don’t rush to criticise. Try to understand their situation. That means having difficult conversations. Remember that talking about their behaviour might come with feelings of embarrassment or shame. Approach the topic slowly. Ask them about school or how they are getting on with their friends and pastimes.
